Reed-bed loos are Britain's best
A country park's toilets which use a reed-bed system to process waste have been named the best in Britain.

Brixworth Country Park in Northamptonshire has won the Country Parks and Gardens (England) category of the 2005 'Loo of the Year Awards'.

Every entry gets an unannounced visit from an inspector and is assessed on a range of criteria including fixtures and fittings, dcor and cleanliness.

The reed-beds create a wildlife habitat and save on sewage treatment costs.

Northamptonshire County Council's Ben Smith, said: "I am delighted that Brixworth's loos have been recognised in this way.

"This award is even more important given that all the waste water from the toilets now goes into an innovative reed-bed system, which is better for the environment."
