Flying Scotsman is always a popular attraction |
The famous Flying Scotsman will be back on the tracks this week to mark the first anniversary of its arrival at York's National Railway Museum (NRM). The steam locomotive will be hauling trips between York and Scarborough on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
The museum bought the engine after a public appeal to save it going abroad.
NRM's Andrew Scott said the best way to celebrate the anniversary was to have it in service "so people can experience the legend first hand."
In 2004, 16,000 people took rides on trains hauled by the Doncaster-built engine which in 1934 became first locomotive to be officially timed in the UK at more than 100mph.
"When we bought Flying Scotsman on behalf of the nation, we promised to do our utmost to keep it on the mainline for the public to enjoy," Mr Scott added.
