Heinz could sell food factories
Hundreds of workers are facing an uncertain future after their international parent company said a review could result in factory sales.

The Heinz organisation is carrying out a nine month review of its operations across Europe in a bid to ensure they are "maximising opportunities".

In Norfolk the Linda McCartney vegetarian unit at Fakenham and a potato plant at Westwick are affected.

A sandwich factory at Luton with more than 700 staff is not to be sold.

Michael Mullen, Heinz corporate affairs director, said Heinz are to focus their business on big name brands which are number one or two in their markets.

The firm is to concentrate on ketchup, condiments, sauces, "infant nutrition" and convenience foods like sandwiches and beans.

"We are looking at a whole range of options including whether to keep or sell the factories," Mr Mullen said.
