Station loos flushed with success

An inspector found the new toilets spick and span
There is a sweet smell of success at Scunthorpe's railway station after judges in the Loo of the Year Award voted the toilets best in category.

An inspector from the British Toilet Association visited the newly refurbished facility and awarded it a four-star grading.

The loos were eventually short-listed and then chosen as the winner of the national transport section.

Station manager John Gildersleeve will get a plaque to mark the achievement.

He said: "It's great to have the improvements recognised. We are working hard to transform the station from top to bottom and to receive this award is excellent news."

The Loo of the Year Awards have been identifying the best in the UK since 1987 and are regarded as standard setters for all those who provide "away from home" facilities for staff, customers and visitors.

More than 1,000 entries were received across 50 separate entry categories with many first-time establishments joining the increasing number of providers who submit their toilet facilities for annual independent assessment.
