Views sought on future of Lakes
National Park bosses in Cumbria say there has been a good response to a major consultation exercise over the future of the Lake District.

The six-week consultation has taken views from residents, businesses, councils, charities and pressure groups on the way forward for the area.

It follows moves by the government to introduce a more responsive planning system in the Lake District.

Responses will form a series of draft proposals over the next four years.

Lake District National Park community development planner Katrina Rice, said: "We have already had a good response, but want to hear from as many people as possible before the 25 July deadline.

Planning rules

"This is the public's chance to let us know if they agree with how we want to involve them in planning the future of the National Park. We need to know if we have got it right."

Outgoing LDNPA chairman Michael Bentley said the purpose of the new planning rules was to try to make the National Park as pleasant a place as possible to live, work and visit.

He added: "The best way to make this happen is to involve as many people as possible in deciding how the local community is planned.

"We are committed to extending and developing links with the local community. We will listen and try to improve."
