In pictures: West Bromwich factory fire
A major fire at a disused factory in the West Midlands caused traffic problems and threatened to spread to a petrol station before army firefighters gained control.

Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles around
Traffic quickly built up on approaches to the West Bromwich area with smoke visible from miles away

Police road blocks sealed off the area
The police sealed off streets surrounding the fire including the Black Country Spine Road

A broken down Green Goddess
One Green Goddess had to stop pumping water when its engine overheated

Army firefighters gained control of the fire
Army personnel managed to get close into the fire as they struggled to bring it under control

The nearby petrol station was closed and evacuated
The fire was kept away from a petrol station just yards from the burning factory

An outbuilding on the factory site
But nothing could be done to save the buildings on the industrial estate
