| Thursday, 15 August, 2002, 06:41 GMT 07:41 UK Waiting trio get their results ![]() There will be big celebrations in Senthil Selvam's home More than a quarter of a million teenagers in England, Wales and Northern Ireland collected their A-level results on Thursday. After an anxious wait, Senthall from Birmingham, Karl from Newcastle and Maria from London find out their results...
"There's a lot at stake for me I feel. I've had my heart set on going to Edinburgh for a while now and I've pretty much told everyone that's where I'm going and that's what my family have told all their friends, 'yeah he's going to Edinburgh next year', so there's a lot to fulfil. Another worry is that, say if I'm the only one that doesn't make their grades and all my other friends make theirs and they go off to where they want to go and I'm the only one that's not going and I'm staying at home, that's another worry for me." RESULTS: "I got three As so I'm going to my first choice university next year, so I'm ecstatic. "I think my mum will be a bit upset that her eldest son is leaving home, but there'll be a celebration." Maria Zherebtsova, 17, London
"To go to Oxford I need to get three As and if I don't get those grades I think as everybody else I will be gutted and very disappointed in myself first of all but if I do get enough it's going to be like partying all night. Thursday is a nerve-wracking day. I don't want to go into school because every single railing reminds me that the time has come." RESULTS: "I got two As and a B. I need to call Oxford now and see if they still want me." Karl Douglass, 18, Tyneside
"If I get to university it'll be fantastic, great. Because I'd be the first person in my family to do a degree at university so it'll mean so much to me and my family. I'm very nervous, I'm not sure what results I'm going to get but hopefully they should be OK." RESULTS: "I got three Es but I'm in uni so that's all I care about. "Anyone who says A-levels are getting easier is mad, we were pushed to the limit." | See also: 14 Aug 02 | UK Education 12 Aug 02 | UK Education 12 Aug 02 | UK Education Internet links: The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites Top Education stories now: Links to more Education stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
